Quantum of Solace Trailer

I found a trailer for the upcoming Bond movie : Quantum of Solace. It looks extremely good and is set to be released in the UK at the end of October. I am a big fan of James Bond films and am glad Casino Royal reversed the downward spiral the franchise got into after Tomorrow Never Dies. I had mixed feelings about Daniel Craig as the new Bond, he seemed unconvincing in the months leading up to the release of Casino Royal; however looking back, I think it was a great decision. Prior to this, Bond films tended to be only loosely based on the original novels by Ian Flemming and treated Bond as though he was completely invulnerable, almost casting him as a super hero. This started to get really out of hand with films like Moonraker (which was similar only in title to the original novel) and the last two Pierce Brosnan films. With the return to the authentic, vulnerable, human Bond a new actor was really required and I think is really shows in Casino Royale that both the production team and Daniel Craig understood this. I simply can’t wait for Quantum! Below is the trailer.

Do I detect a distinct aftertaste of the Bourne series?

Moonraker was, by far, the most unbelievable of the Bond series. I expect comical disbelief from a Bond movie, but that pushed it way over the edge. Besides, I never liked Roger Moore as 007. In other roles he was fine. But in that role, he seemed too aristocratic.

I still think Connery was the best Bond.
Lazenby : Too “blah”. Besides, I never could picture Bond getting married.
Moore : Too aristocratic. Too refined. There was always something brutish about the real Bond.
Dalton : Too cold. Too thugish. The other extreme of Moore.
Brosnan : Too childish. Though I admit, I liked him in the role.
Craig : Too new… Well, I’ll give myself (and him) some time for that 😉

I should say that I actually did rather enjoy Moonraker, but it is nice to get back to the nitty-gritty and away from the Bond is a superhero style of films. I rather like Craig, I didn’t think I would be he seems to have brought the role up several notches.

No-one thought that. General public opinion was very much against him. Like Bond, though, he weathered the storm of dislike/hate and truly rubbed our noses in it when Casino Royale came out. Sir Sean is my fav Bond too, but it is too soon to tell with Craig.

Ha, I very much was in the “hmm.. I am not too sure” camp about Craig pregame.
