The one workaround that was used in the early 80s (8086 processor was all the rage) was a virtual hard drive...which had some interesting caveats all its own.

...God, I hate computers. Addicted, too. Since 1971.

Kailm, interesting idea from the article. In a nutshell, you are replacing key files from within Windows Vista with Windows Server 2008. This extends the functionality of PAE which I talked about in my post to remove the synthetic 4Gb limit in Vista 32bit. Whilst it is an interesting idea I would not recommend trying it, system stability is far more important to me than living on the bleeding edge when it comes to OSes.

Also, strictly speaking it is not legal, whilst you can download the ISO images from Microsoft, you still do not have a right to use the files without paying for a license. Server 2008 works like Vista in that you can evaluate it for a few days without purchasing it but that doesn't mean its ok to harvest files from it.

it is possible dont believe the MS hoax

guys this is just a microsoft hide me problem!
it is possible to use upto 64gb in vista 32 just like the server editions
you just need to do this

http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/how-to-enable-use-and-support-4gb-or-more-physical-ram-memory-in-32-bit-windows-vista/

guys confirmed it works.

of course if you use any hack the tokens.dat file gets replaced for activation.
you have to use timer stop for this...

windows 2008 iso is readily available so its not illegal!
there are also hyperv images available u can get the files from!

So there is no wiggle room around this 3.5 gb barrier in vista? damn. i have the 32-bit vista :-(

Oh well, as soon as I get a bigger hard drive, i'm going to make it into a dual boot OS of some ubuntu flavor and vista or ubuntu and xp. :-Þ

I much prefer xp of vista. The only thing i can say i like much more in vista is the start menu. But really, that isn't saying much if i plan on migrating to linux to do most of my computing less photoshopping.
